Latinx & Latin American Studies

Finding scholarly articles on Latin American Studies and related topics

Here are some great databases that offer at least some full text of scholarly articles and book chapters. These are databases the library has subscribed to so you can have access to the full text of articles that you would otherwise have to pay for.

  • Project Muse Full text of over 110 scholarly journals in a variety of disciplines. Most coverage: 1996 to present.
  • JSTOR By using the advanced search you can restrict your inquiry to broad subject categories like history. Good immediate full text articles but not the most recent and a limited number of journals.
  • Academic Search Premier has at least a few articles on just about any topic you can think of, but not much depth in any one discipline. This database provides news & magazine articles, book reviews, and videos, in addition to scholarly journal articles.

Great Indexes for Latin American Studes topics

Indexes do not provide very much full text access, but they are essential for helping you identify important articles and scholars in your field. When you find something useful in these indexes, try a new search in the Library Catalog or Discover Search to see if we already own the book or article. If not (or if you can't tell for sure), you can always submit an interlibrary loan request to get full text access of books or articles from other libraries across the country. Any questions, ask Robin!

  • PAIS International with Archive contains references to more than 553,300 journal articles, books, government documents, statistical directories, grey literature, research reports, conference reports, publications of international agencies, and more. Primarily an index.
