This guide will walk through the steps to project/use the microphone on the podium in the Main Lecture Hall of Franklin Patterson Hall.

Self Service Projection/Sound Amplification in MLH

The main lecture hall is one of our most popular spaces for special lectures, panels, and generally any event that needs to take place inside and has an expected audience of more than 40 people. This guide will show you the simple steps needed to use the Projector and microphone that are setup for presentations.

The Podium at the base of the Lecture hall is where you will find the microphone, the remote for the projector, and the cables to connect your device to the projector.

Use your full voice and speak naturally.

When using the microphone, you still have to use your full voice to engage
your audience and establish your identity as a speaker.

Stand upright & keep your voice turned toward the
microphone.

When addressing the audience, stand upright to improve the sound of your
voice, facilitating the most effective use of the microphone. Remember to
speak just above the microphone (not into it) and to maintain a consistent
position, so that the volume of your voice does not fluctuate.

Avoid testing and clapping into the microphone.

The microphone is not being monitored by a technician, it is always on and. Tapping to
test and clapping into the microphone both result in greatly magnified sounds
which can be startling to the audience.
