There are many ways to capture and amplify audio and a lot of choices to make from which recorder to what method to apply to do whatever it might be that you want to do. One of these choices is picking the right microphone for the right job, and we know that this can be overwhelming.
We carry two types of commonly-used microphones - Dynamic and Condenser:
Dynamic Mics are flexible, usually high gain before feedback and are passive, meaning that they do not need a power source to collect sound. They are often the mic of choice for live sound being amplified through a loudspeaker
Condenser Mics are typically more sensitive and are active, meaning that they need a power source (usually a small battery or phantom power from a device that it is connected-to). These mics are usually used in location or studio recordings and in some instances where feedback can be controlled, live sound amplification.
The above tabs break our microphone collection down by intended use, but we encourage you to explore all of the options and talk with any of us on staff about what we might recommend for your particular situation. Often times, five minutes and a couple quick questions can save you a lot of hassle in a live situation or in post production. So please don't be shy!
